ARTful Gold Leaf

For the end of november, a color combo that probably is about four weeks early: red and gold.

Both polishes I used for this mani are by the german brand Catrice. The base color is called ARTful Red and was part of the ViennART collection (here in Switzerland this limited edition is still available). The polish isn't a true red, but  a raspberry leaning rosewood color with intense golden flakie shimmer. I used two coats for opacity.

For the glitter gradient I used a glitter topcoat called Gold Leaf (SpectaculART Collection), but the name doesn't really describe the polish. It's not a gold leaf topcoat like OPI's The Man With The Golden Gun, but a clear polish with gold and silver hex glitter. On to of the gradient I added one coat of KBShimmer Clearly On Top.

Pahlish Mystery Shade

Today's polish is one of Pahlish's "Mystery Shades", a one-time-only batch that is produced in a very limited quantity and doesn't get a name. If you order them through the Pahlish Big Cartel shop, you don't know what you'll get, so even the look of the polish is a mystery, until you open the box :-)

This mystery polish has a stone grey crelly base with white, charcoal and copper/gold flakies. I used two medium coats plus one coat of KBShimmer Clearly On Top.

Pahlish polishes are available on Bigcartel, at Overall Beauty and at Llarowe. I bought mine at the Bigcartel shop.

And last but not least: Happy Thanksgiving to my american readers!

52 Week Challenge - Brush Stroke / Favorite Brand

A new week, two new challenge themes: brush stroke and favorite brand. There are a lot of brands I really like, especially indie brands, but in the end I chose ILNP, an american indie brand famous for their awesome multichrome polishes.

For this mani I started with a simple black base (one coat of aEngland Camelot). Over this base I applied three ILNP polishes, Nostalgia, Cygnus Loop and Sirene (starting from the cuticle) with a single stroke of the semi-dry brush. One coat of KBShimmer Clearly On Top finished this mani.

Mein Fazit

Fowl Play

Today I have a golden oldie to show you, that was sitting with my untrieds for almost two years: Orly Fowl Play.

Fowl Play has a deep plum colored jelly base filled with multichrome flakies shifting from red over orange and green to blue, plus some small blue hexes. I used three thin coats for opacity and added one coat of KBShimmer Clearly On Top to speed up the drying time.

Of course I mattefied it, using H&M Matte Topcoat.

Will Yule Marry Me

It's still a couple of weeks until Christmas, but since this Christmas polish isn't anywhere near the red/green/gold range, I think I can already show it: KBShimmer Will Yule Marry Me? ( Winter 2013 Collection)

"Christmas Eve holds a special place in Chelsea’s heart as that is when she got engaged!  To represent that event, Chelsea want navy blue creally with sparkling silver holo glitters.  Both circle and hex holo glitters give this polish its sparkle and shine."
(Source: KBShimmer)

I wouldn't call the crelly base navy blue though, in my eyes it's grey with just a hint of blue (but beautiful nontheless). I used two medium coats and one coat of KBShimmer Clearly On Top.

KBShimmer polishes are sold on their website (US only) and at Harlow & Co.
Will Yule Marry Me? was released in 2013 but it's still available this winter.

52 Week Challenge - Book / Brown

This week's challenge theme's are brown and books. Here's what I made of these.

For the brown I used Glitter Gal Belgian Chocolate. This holo polish is admittedly more marroon than brown, but I still think calling it "brown" isn't completely wrong. My accent nail shows a golden Tolkien decal by Fandom Cosmetics over one coat of a England Camelot. As always, I added one coat of KBShimmer Clearly On Top.

First Day Of My Life - Pahlish August Duo

With this grey and foggy november weather, I sometimes just feel like wearing summer colors. So here's the Pahlish monthly duo from august: First Day Of My Life.

The base color of this duo is called Meet Me In The Morning and has a light tiffany blue base with copper flakes. I used two medium coats for opacity, the formula is very nice to work with. Meet Me In The Morning reminds me of Butter London Two Fingered Salute or Catrice Mint Me Up. Is anyone interested in a comparison post with these three?

The glitter topper, Blankets On The Beach, has a clear base with golden, copper and aqua glitters (hexes, squares, dots) in various sizes. I used it for a glitter gradient. One coat of KBShimmer Clearly On Top as enough for a smooth finish.

Pahlish polishes are available on Bigcartel, at Overall Beauty and at Llarowe. I bought mine at the Bigcartel shop. The monthly duos are only available for one month, and every month there's a new one.
